The Dukeries Singers: A Season of Song, Community, and Celebration
The Dukeries Singers have had a truly memorable season, marked by two highly successful concerts in Ollerton and Edwinstowe. Audiences were treated to a vibrant programme of songs from the musicals, culminating in a rousing and emotional Les Misérables medley that brought the house to its feet. These performances not only showcased the choir’s musicality but also the joy and camaraderie that define our group.
We were delighted to be filmed both in rehearsal and in concert, capturing the spirit and energy of our performances. An excerpt from this footage is now available to view on our choir website, offering a glimpse into the heart of our musical journey.
In recognition of our contribution to the local community, we are honoured to have been nominated by Ollerton Together for a Newark and Sherwood District Council (NSDC) Community Award. This nomination is a testament to the dedication of our members and the support of our wonderful audiences.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to be taking part in World Singing Day on Saturday, 18th October 2025, joining voices with choirs around the globe in a celebration of unity through song.
Our new season begins on Wednesday, 2nd July 2025, and we’ll be meeting at The Methodist Church Hall, Forest Road, New Ollerton. We extend a warm welcome to all, whether you’re a seasoned singer or just curious to give it a try. There’s no audition, and while reading music helps, it’s certainly not required. What matters most is a love of singing and a willingness to have fun.
We’re also excited to welcome our new accompanist, Sue Bennet, a well-known figure in the local music scene. Sue brings extraordinary talent and a deep commitment to community music-making, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.
If you’d like to join us, simply come along to a rehearsal. We don’t aim to be the best choir in the world or even in Nottinghamshire, but we do promise plenty of laughter, friendship, and the joy of singing together.
The Dukeries Singers are also available for hire at local events. For more information, please contact John Banbury on 07759 086132 or email john@asherwood.co.uk.
